Tech Burn

Recently I received the Nokia E71 from a friends, just to play with. Playing with phones and gadgets has always been my passion. Being a Nokia N95 (8GB) user, i found the E71 experience to be different yet very interesting and exciting. Loads of shortcut keys, quicker user interface, awesome battery life and a great QWERTY keyboard which is rather easy to get used to. Within a day of use I fell in love with the phone, so much that I deseperately felt a need to own one which would replace my main phone, the N95.

Well many might argue the N95 has a MUCH better camera, 3.5mm jack, TV out and all those multimedia features the N series is loaded with, but for few like me who hardly ever use the camera too much, prefer the much better battery life (10 hours of talktime) and text a lot, the E71 is just the perfect phone. To add to the appeal the phone is damn sexy with fantastic build quality, the best I have personally seen in a Nokia phone.

So after deciding to get the E71 for myself, I was wondering which one to go for the grey E71 or the white? From the pics, the grey looked slightly better but some of the videos I saw on Youtube, the white one looked much hotter and stood out a lot more than the grey.

After more research I figured out the E71 grey keyboard is made of a matte finish while the E71 white keyboard is shiny and a bit slippery, which could mean harder to type on the smallish keyboard. Some were of the opinion that the white is more a girly kinda phone while the grey’s reserved style makes it looks more professional.

Finally I decided to go over to a Nokia dealer nearby and check out the white E71 in real. The white indeed looked much better and the keyboard too felt just fine.  The sales person told me, the card and the microusb slot cover is more likely to get dirty soon but he assured me the main keyboard wouldn’t, even after rough use.

So finally I decided to go with the White E71 which also comes with a bluetooth headset (the grey one doesn’t)

Some tips if you decide to the get the E71 white over the black.

• Stick a small transparent plastic tape on the cover of the memory card and usb slot.
• Buy a screen scratch guard and stick it on.
• Use the pouch that comes along with the phone, it will avoid scratches on the body of your phone. Note the E71 White comes with a white pouch with red interiors.
